Pure Ceylon Tea
About
Ceylon Tea
The early 1880s was a tough time in Sri Lanka. With the downfall of the coffee trade, there was a huge financial breakdown in the country. Meanwhile, in the Kandy and Dimbula plantations, a reclusive Scottish planter named James Taylor had been experimenting with a new plant, planting it along the margins of the divisional roads on his coffee estate, Loolecondera.
This new plant is none other than tea. This was the roots of Ceylon Tea and by the time the coffee-blight struck, Taylor had nineteen acres of Loolecondera planted with tea. Within a short time, planters from all over the hill country were visiting Loolecondera to learn how to grow and manufacture tea.
Thus in Sri Lanka, James Taylor is named the “Father of Tea”.
