What is "Ozone-Friendly" Tea?
For decades, tea growers worldwide relied on Methyl Bromide—a powerful chemical fumigant—to treat nursery soils against nematodes. However, methyl bromide is a major contributor to the depletion of the Earth's protective ozone layer.
Recognizing the ecological danger, Sri Lanka's Tea Research Institute partnered with regional plantation companies to replace methyl bromide entirely with eco-friendly bio-pesticides, solarization techniques, and organic soil management.
